Today is the first day of a new adventure!! Yesterday was my last day as a full-time employee of Adobe. I am now part-time so I can spend time pursuing an entrepreneurial opportunity.
I started at Adobe on October 15, 2000 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I've worked in multiple locations on multiple products. Lately, I've been a Senior Product Manager for LiveCycle. Life at Adobe isn't all about the product -- I've worked with some great people! It is the people that make the experience. Even though I'm going part-time, I continue to bleed Adobe red.
It is time for me to start walking my own path. I've always had an entrepreneurial streak. It runs in my family. My mother and father run a small business. My great-grandfather owned a restaurant. When I was young I helped with my parents' business. When I grew older, I had a paper route. Most recently, I took a few weeks off a few years ago to have my own food stand at the Ottawa Tulip Festival - paso doble burritos.
For the past five months I've been working on a project that combines technology and restaurants. I'm keeping the idea close to my chest for now. When the time is right, I'll give all kinds of details on what I'm doing. I've got some potential customers that I'm working with. It is all very exciting!!
At the same time, it is a bit scary too. Going half-time at Adobe means I'll be making half of what I used to. Jessica's maternity leave is almost over, so she'll have a salary again soon. Even so, we're going to have to budget very carefully over the next 12 months while I build up the customer base.
Above it all, I am extremely excited for the future! Everyone has been extremely supportive. Especially Jessica. Without her, I wouldn't be able to do this. I know that I'm going to be successful and that this new path will bring a wealth of new life experiences.
