Mark and I were first introduced to the Alkaline Diet of all places but on our Carribean Cruise. We have since sworn this is the best and healthiest way to live life and have never looked or felt better in our lives. Check it out!

What is an alkaline diet?
An alkaline diet is a diet that emphasizes, to a varying degree, fresh fruit, vegetables, roots, nuts, and legumes. It does not completely replace other foods, but switches the balance to 80/20 alkaline foods to the Western diet stuff.

We usually think of a regular main meal with a "side of salad." This diet proposes that what is on the side is the acid-forming ingredients of the Western diet instead.

Our blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our diet should reflect this pH level (as it did in the past) and be slightly alkaline.

Western diet introduced processed, preservative-filled foods in addition to a strong focus on cheese, breads and meats. Sugars, saturated fats and white bread are exceptionally acid forming in the body. The Alkaline Diet supports more of the alkaline-forming foods that return your body back to it's ph balance.

Your body responds better to such issues as water retention, digestion, headaches, hollow-looking skin, dull eyes, nasal congestion, anxiety among others.

Striking the optimum 80/20 balance and regulating your body's acid/alkaline chemistry through simple changes in diet can result in weight loss, increased stamina and strength, a stronger immune system and a greater sense of wellbeing.

What are alkaline foods?
Below is a quick table showing you where the food you eat falls within the two categories. Surprisingly, things like lemons and limes are acidic by themselves, but are alkaline when broken down by the body.

Detox to remove acid, return your balance
The most effective way to reverse the trend of over-acidification is to ‘cleanse’ the body of toxins and rapidly create an alkaline environment in which the body can heal itself. Even at our age, we accumulate a lot of excess water and toxins that our body is not able to break down.

Cleansing is a natural, holistic method of healing in which the body detoxifies itself and regenerates healthy vibrant cells, effectively becoming more alkalised. A mild detox can be just to begin changing your diet and be mindful of everything that you put into it.
