This page contains all of my notes as I went through the process of applying for the Assistant Technical Director job at Digital Domain. As they are notes, they are a bit disjoint.
can't sell project management stuff -- one in LA
software group at DD is between 10 and 20 people.
A few hundred at DD
Sometimes the artists are TDs. They can do a bit of coding.
A lot of people are self-taught. Not all people in software group have CS degrees
Most TDs are self-taught
Being formalized about planning isn't that prevalent
Justin was at a company called Dr. D.
This page contains info I've discovered as I work towards creating a sample interactive book.
Potential authors to approach:
* Charles Ghinga. He is Julie's dad and is a children's book author for Random House. He could be interesting to talk with to see if he would be interested in working with me or would introduce me to the publisher. Here is his personal website: www.charlesghigna.com
* Someone local. See the Children's Writers and Illustrators of British Columbia Society
This page contains links and other goodness around software development languages, methodologies, and anything else of interest.
* The manual for PyDev, the Python plugin for Eclipse.
This page contains links to other pages I've created that contain things I don't want to forget. Yes, Google search will do a lot for me. But this page contains links to things that I don't want to lose or have to find again via the "right" combination of search terms.
A John Lasseter interview - Charlie Rose performed the interview in December of 2011. I haven't seen it yet, but would like to.
Well, I heard back from the Bluesfest last week. And got REJECTED! Well, it is their loss. They have no idea about the delicious burritos that their patrons will be missing. I have to admit that I'm a bit confused and was surprised by some of the back and forth emails.....they didn't think that the Blackberry/iPhone burrito ordering idea I had was the right fit for their event. I was very surprised to have gotten that email -- people don't want to stand in line for food at the Bluesfest, they want to listen to music! This could have let people have the opportunity to spend less time in line. Oh well.
One really good thing about the whole process is that they asked for reviews of our food. I was able to go to some friends and friends of friends to get some reviews. And they were all stellar!!! When we finally update the Paso Doble web site, we'll post them up there. If money wasn't a problem, I really would like to open up some burrito restaurants. I still don't feel that Canada has a good burrito restaurant. Paso Doble would be unique here.

Ahh, Disneyland :-) At the end of March I got to go to Disneyland with Maria! I had to be in SoCal for work, so I thought it would be nice to take a few days to go to one of my favorite places on Earth! It is always so relaxing there. Your cares fade away to the background. Your biggest concern is how to dry off after going on Splash Mountain and to find where the nearest churro cart is. It is always sad to go back to the real world at the end....
Jessica was a *great* sport about my going. She is so far along with Bun that she is past her travel expiration date. I really needed a mental vacation, so she had no problem with me going. I was able to fly Maria down from Seattle for the weekend -- we had a great time together! But we did miss Jessica and Bun. Maria and I ended up spending a lot of time looking at other people's Buns.
